The Reverend Gus P. Chrysson
Rector
Fr. Gus Chrysson is a native of Winston-Salem, NC. He comes from a large family with Greek, Costa Rican, and Southern roots. Most recently, he served as Assistant to the Rector at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in High Point, from 2019-2022. He holds degrees in music performance and education from NYU and Columbia, and an MDiv from Virginia Theological Seminary. Prior to heading to seminary in 2016, Fr. Gus worked as a full time classical musician in New York City, specializing in vocal and choral repertoire. He is passionate about Christian formation, liturgy, pilgrimage, and engaged discipleship. In addition to ministry and music, he enjoys old-school cooking, travel, and reading. With his spouse, Fr. Jonathan Pucik, he shares a home with Frida, a spunky Miniature Schnauzer puppy.

The Reverend Joan L. Sherrill
Deacon
The Rev. Joan L. Sherrill accepted the call to be our Deacon in 2015 after her ordination as a Vocational Deacon in the Episcopal Church. She graduated with a BS degree in Accounting from the University of NC at Greensboro. She was a member of St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church before coming to Ascension. While there she served as a Lay Eucharistic Minister and Lay Eucharistic Visitor and was very active in the church. She is happy that Ascension is her first church where she will serve as Deacon. For over thirteen years, her ministry has been with the prison systems of NC and Forsyth County Jail. She has been working with inmates with addiction problems and helps them to readjust to life outside of prison. She is also a volunteer Chaplain at Forsyth Hospital. At Ascension, she enjoys serving with the volunteers at Our DailyBread food pantry.While away from Ascension, she is an accountant for two local businesses. She enjoys playing golf and Canasta. She loves being at home reading and just sitting with her cat, “Boo.” She also loves the coast of NC and goes there at every available opportunity to sit on the pier and fish.

The Rt. Rev. Samuel Rodman
Bishop Diocesan of the Diocese of North Carolina
Bishop Sam was ordained and consecrated as the 12th Bishop of North Carolina’s on July 15, in the Chapel of Duke University in Durham, NC.
Rodman previously served as the Special Projects Officer for the Diocese of Massachusetts, a role he took on after spending five years as the diocesan project manager for campaign initiatives, where he engaged congregations, clergy and laity, in collaborative local and global mission through the Together Now campaign, helping to raise $20 million to fund these initiatives. Prior to that, Rodman spent 16 years as the rector of St. Michael’s in Milton, Massachusetts, during which the parish established a seven-year plan that included a capital campaign for a major renovation of the church building.
Ordained in 1988, Rodman is a graduate of Bates College and Virginia Theological Seminary. He is married to Deborah Rodman, and they are the parents of two adult daughters. In his free time, Rodman enjoys basketball, golf, kayaking, walking his dog, crosswords and creative writing.
